After an odyssey that took us from PDX to LAX to JFK, we and our luggage arrived in Bridgetown, Barbados. Air miles may make flying cheap but don’t always provide the most direct routing.
The warm temperatures helped mitigate our fatigue, but a long nap at the hotel worked even better. After shedding our winter clothes we headed out to find some of the local cuisine. Much to our dismay, we discovered Bridgetown closes up at sunset, which is very early when you are this far south. Turned out the closest happening place was a 30 minute cab ride. After all that time on airplanes, we opted for a snack at the hotel, figuring Saturday would be our day of opportunity. Sure, all the restaurants near the hotel were closed for lunch on Saturday. Time for plan B.
After another hotel meal, we headed for the ship. Soon, it was clear things were looking up. Our cabin is luxerious with private veranda, walk in closet, wonderful bed and lots of space to get away for a little down time. The ship is small by most cruise ship standards, holding only 380 passengers. This trip there are 272 guests. The amenities are up to larger ship standards with four restaurants, pool, spa, casino, theater, several bars and probably many more I have yet to discover. Clearly there’d will be no shortage of food, drink oe entertainment. The guest list is heavily British, so will make for some interesting conversations, even if we didn’t watch the wedding.
Today is wandering around the island of Bequia, St. Vincent. A laid back little place where we can work on getting into the Caribbean spirit.
