And the suffering continues… Today we visited the small island of Dominica. The rugged terrain kept the island from being a colony, but did attract a few English and French who argued over the place and left their mark on the language.
The weather continues to be delightful. With a high around 85, lots of blue skies and sunshine are just what we needed. It is the tale end of the dry season here. Soon the island will be receiving it’s annual onslaught of rain. The rain forest in the center of the island receives up to 400 inches of rain a year. Glad we will be long gone.
The capital city of Roseau boasts colorful, if a bit shabby, architecture. The vendors refer to customers as lovey. While there isn’t much of consequence to purchase, there are lots of folks trying to send you home with it.
We were planning to avoid most shore excursions, but over a beer in the afternoon, many start sounding more interesting. Today we went for a tram ride through the canopy of the rain forest. The variety of plant life and the size of the plants made the trip worthwhile. Add in a few birds and we were glad we went along.
We are enjoying the company of most of the guests on the ship. However, as with most groups, there is the couple from hell on board too. Last night they were seated at our table for dinner. That will be the last time! When the husband verbally went after me towards the end of dinner, the other dinner companion was mortified. The evening broke up rapidly after that. Not sure what set the fellow off, but out of the blue, he asked me why I hate Jews. Where did that come from? And how do you respond to such an off the wall outburst? Enough said, did see him in the passageway after lunch today. I was headed the opposite direction, but could overhear enough as he walked away to know that for what ever reason I am at the top of his list. I did meet another couple, delightful folks from northern England who had a similar experience with this fellow. By the end of the trip, he will probably alienate all the passengers and crew.
Time to head to the pool for happy hour. Cheers.
