If it is Brussels, must be time to think about going home

After almost six weeks on the road, our interest in experiencing foreign places is running out. We slept in this morning, took our time getting our act together, and our desire to see as much as possible never surfaced.

Out of all the wonderful historic and memorable sights, we focused on minutiae. First on our list was visiting the manniken pis, a small fountain, with a very small statute of a boy peeing. Everywhere you go in Brussels, you will find t-shirts, hat pins, chocolates, whatever folks can think of in the image of this little statue. He is a fortunate little boy. He has over 600 outfits and dresses up for holidays and visits from foreign dignitaries. Many celebrity visitors bring him new clothes, so his wardrobe continues to grow.

You may not realize it, but he has a cousin, Jeanette. She is less well known and has fewer visitors. I don’t think she has much of a wardrobe either.

We also visited the beer museum, which is basically a film about making beer and a nice place to have a beer. With 800 breweries in Belgium, there is no shortage of beers to try. We managed to try 3, which was enough for one day.

Now we are on the Eurostar headed for London and our flight home. We arrived at the station early, so made it to the right train on time.

The Eurostar is a step up from the other trains we’ve been on. The service is more like first class on an airplane, with a meal, coffee or tea, wine or beer. There is also a dining car if you want something else.

Having accomplished getting on the right train on the right day, think I will relax and enjoy the scenery.
