The trip home is taking much longer than anticipated. Leaving Cuba went smoothly, spent most of my last CUCs at the airport, and my last trip to the bathroom where, as usual, you paid the matron for toilet paper and there are no toilet seats and half the toilets don’t flush.
Unfortunately we were over an hour late departing Miami. Of course our flight from Atlanta to PDX departed on time, so we were treated to a night in Atlanta. Delta does treat their passengers better than some of the other airlines, we were put up at the Marriott (AirTrans sends their passengers to the Comfort Inn). We were also given vouchers for dinner and lunch. It was a bit upsetting to discover each voucher was worth $6 – the only thing on the menu at the hotel for that price was a dish of ice cream. Fortunately, seasoned travelers that we are, we thought to ask if we could use all the vouchers for dinner. Score – the vouchers covered all but $3 of the cost of dinner. Not bad.
We slept well, survived the Monday morning mass gaggle at airport security and now are happily drinking coffee while we wait for our flight to depart. Wish we had the non-stop to Portland, but won’t complain as long as we don’t end up with a night in Minneapolis.
